*Life is a beach

Hello everyone! I hope your week has been going well...Andy and I have been having a marvelous time with his grandma in Florida - nothing but sun, sand and relaxation. Hopefully your Memorial Day weekend was enjoyable. More outfit pictures will be up soon!

I'm sitting in my bed right now amidst an accumulating pile of bathing suits, assorted t-shirts and miscellaneous items I will probably have no need for in Florida yet cannot bear to leave behind. This operation known as packing is quite the tedious task for me...I tend to devote WAY too much energy toward trying to plan out every detail of my trip. I will spend literally hours putting together outfits that, when I reach my destination, have no desire to wear at all. Though somewhat frustrating, I still can't help but write down all my outfits on sticky notes before I leave for a trip. All I keep thinking is what the heck am I going to do when I study abroad for a semester??? But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
I am so thrilled to be spending nine days with my boyfriend Andy in Florida! I haven't seen the boy in almost three months...it's been way too long! Follow me on Twitter (@TheFlareBlog) and Instagram (@theflareblog) to stay updated with our shenanigans!

Today is the day! Seeing my cousin Erin graduate from the Air Force Academy and seeing Barack Obama speak at Commencement. I am so excited for these priceless moments. Yesterday's parade was a blast; we watched cadets jump out of airplanes and land on the field, fighter and glider planes soar over the stands, and hundreds of Air Force Academy cadets stand in their lines and salute the graduating class of 2012. It was such a proud and humbling moment to see my cousin on the field in her uniform, representing the Academy and the honor it represents.
The rest of the day will be filled with celebration surrounded by family and friends...I am so proud of Erin and am looking forward to today's festivities!

*A Little Lace

[Necklace: Kate Spade (cute one here), Sunglasses: Ray-Ban, Chambray Shirt: J.Crew (similar), Shirt: Marshalls (similar), Watch: Guess, Skirt: F21 (similar), Boots: Aldo (similar)]

Happy Tuesday everyone! Yesterday I was in the car with my family driving to Colorado to see my cousin and her boyfriend graduate from the Air Force Academy. Two smarty-pants there (both engineers). Those nine hours were filled with farms, cows, and the occasional deserted gas station. Oh, and a sign for the largest Prairie Dog in the WORLD (I was driving at the time...it took everything I had not to take that exit). My family is so used to long and humdrum road trips...so nine hours? That's nothin.
I'll have some more posts this week of pictures my sister took back in Kansas City!

*Celeb Saturday: Cameron Diaz

I am happy to introduce a new theme to the blog...Celeb Saturday! (I know it's a C and an S but the alliteration is still there people!) I'm sure many of you are like me...scouring the internet for celebrity candids as outfit inspiration. Well, I thought I would make the search a little easier for you (and more fun for me) by putting together a look by a style-savvy celeb each Saturday! I'll have an archive of each look located on a different page (you can find it on the bar at the top of the blog).
Let me know of some celebs you want to see! Have a great weekend!

*Pink and princesses

[Jacket: Urban Outfitters, Top: Gap (on sale here!!), Jeans: Gap (similar), Shoes: Banana Republic (similar) Watch: Guess]

Hello everyone! Didn't have time to take pictures yesterday, so here are a few old ones from when I was at school. The past few days I've been busy putting together my new room in Kansas City. And trust me...there is a LOT to be done. I would have kept the bright pink walls with fairies and princesses and frogs that the last owner had, but I wasn't really going for a 9-year-old-girl's-fantasy look. My mom and I have been hitting up HomeGoods and Hobby Lobby this week for pieces to complete my room. Follow me on Instagram (theflareblog) to see some pictures of my big-girl room!

*Something Borrowed

[Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters (similar), Chambray Shirt: American Eagle (similar), Shirt: J.Crew (similar), Shorts: J.Crew (another cute print here!), Shoes: Urban Outfitters (wish I had these too!)]

One of the best things about reuniting with your twin sister? Not the laughs or the storytelling (though those are wonderful) ...but a whole new wardrobe ready for me to take advantage of. Before we went away to college my sister and I had the Great Clothing Divide of 2011. No joke, we gave it a name. And a list of rules. Alisa and I laid out every item of clothing we had shared all through high school and went, one by one, through each piece deciding who got what. Surprisingly enough, it didn't end in tears and hair pulling, but a respectful handshake and a little wimper as we said goodbye to half of our closet.

Which brings me to the Great Clothing Reunion of 2012. Coming home and walking into my sister's closet, it was like opening a whole new wardrobe. This entire outfit is a sample of what I've been missing for so long, I can't wait to "borrow" some more things! (I wouldn't be surprised if a few ended up in my suitcase back to Elon!)

There is nothing like being home. Getting to spend time with family is one of the most precious things to me...after being away at school for so long, I realize how important it is to have my parents and sister present in my life. Since flying into Kansas City on Saturday, the four of us have had a blast getting to spend time together. We celebrated Mother's Day by going to church in the city and eating at my mom's favorite little restaurant, the Blue Bird Bistro. We ended the day by watching the Desperate Housewives series finale (a family favorite - even my dad loves it!). It was the perfect way to spend the day!
I cannot express how happy I am to be under the same roof as my parents and sister. I feel like being away at college has allowed me to grow up and realize that one of the most important things in life is being with those you love.
I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the time I have with my parents this summer before I go back to school!

*What's in your wardrobe?

If you follow me on Instagram (if you don't, now's the time. @TheFlareBlog), you probably saw a few snapshots from the filming of my fashion segment last week.
Looked fun, huh? Oh, if only you were there...
My buddy Catherine (I mentioned her in this post) and I had quite the night filming for this segment.
It might have been because we worked the optimal hours for mental stress & insanity (10 p.m. to 1 a.m.), or the fact that we were both running on very minimal sleep, or the power we felt by have the studio (and entire Communications building, for that matter) under our control. . . but things got pretty crazy in there.
There were ladders to be climbed, back rooms to be explored and lights to be tampered with. If any Communications students are reading this, all was put back to normal. No worries. When Julia joined in on the fun we assigned her as the DJ and blasted some tunes.
On one hand I wish you could have seen the footage we got of us acting like hooligans. On the other hand, some things are better left unshared. So on that note, go click Play above and see me being NORMAL on screen. Well, kind of normal.

*Hello world, meet Erin

I was wearing:
[Sunglasses: Ray-Ban, Button-down: Erin's (she got from a boutique - a cute one here), Top: Macy's (similar), Watch: Guess, Shorts: Old Navy (similar), Shoes: Macy's (similar)]

Erin was wearing:
[Sunglasses: F21 (similar), Top: F21 (similar), Belt: Mine (I got from J.Crew - a similar one here), Skirt: Thrifted (similar), Shoes: Lucky Brand (LOVE these!)]

Hello, have you met my friend Erin? She's sassy. And trendy. She has an eruptive laugh and an affinity for hand-holding (we received a few stares as we were walking around campus). The girl's got brains, too. She goes to Duke...fancy huh? Oh, and she's an AWESOME dancer.

Blogging world, meet Erin. Erin, meet blogging world.

Now that we're all acquainted, I can tell you about all the fun we had when she visited this week! I was delighted to hear that Erin was done with school earlier than me so she could visit my humble abode. I showed her around campus, we indulged in a heaping amount of dinner and frozen yogurt and stayed up very, VERY late with my suite mates (I basically snoozed through my class the next morning....no regrets.) Erin is the type of girl who befriends you the second you are introduced to her so, of course, she got along excellently with all of them!

I could write a novel about this girl and all the fun we had in high school, but I know those stories sound MUCH funnier in my head. The point of this rambling is that seeing Er Bear this week was a blast and she will be one of my best friends for the rest of my life. I can't wait to see her again later this year!
